A day in the high country.

Today, we had a day up on the escarpment, visiting God's Window, near Graskop & then driving to the Blyde River Canyon. We couldn't have wished for more perfect weather & the drive up was very pleasant. As it was a week day few tourists were about & it was a lovely walk through the evergreen forest & looking over the viewpoints.

View looking down into the lowlands.
Nice Africa-montane forest on the steep slopes.
A beautiful view on a lovely day.

We then drove further north up towards the canyon. We had to abandon all hope of visiting Bourke's Luck Potholes, as the workers were on strike & we couldn't enter! A shame that, as Ceggy missed out on an interesting area. Undeterred, we arrived at the canyon, visited several viewpoints & had lunch at the Forever Resort on the top of the escarpment.

Just one of the many fine viewpoints.

I managed to see a Taita Falcon,
but too far for a photo!
We walked down a path & found this peaceful spot.
There was a Mountain Wagtail here, strutting its stuff!

Looking down into the Blyde River.
I walked this route many years ago with Rob
& we had a great day out.

 Ceggy, taking his photos.
 Rowan & Ceggy.

We did a little shopping in Graskop, & I bought an Elephant sculpture for the house! Ceggy & Rowan bought gifts for family & friends back home. Nice drive home, to wind up a very good day out.
