In Nicci's cafe!
I flew into London on 10th May & Delana flew in on 17th. Rowan also drove down for the weekend & we had some family time.
We all went out for a meal one evening.

On 20th May we drove up north to Ilkley, which was a bit of a squeeze in the car! Met up with Jacky & Tom later that evening. Tom was kind enough to lend me his car for a few days. The very next day Delana & I went to Crowle to stay with Rob & Helen. We enjoyed a lovely evening in the garden with long time friends, but I forgot to take any photos of the gathering!
Looking towards the moors.

There are some nice wetlands now
in the middle of the moors.
There is a thriving colony of Black headed Gulls
on the moors.

The following morning Rob, Delana & I enjoyed a few hours on Crowle Moors. The weather was amazing & we saw 3 Marsh Harriers & 4 Hobbies. The Cranes once again eluded me though!
On 24th May we drove over to Spurn for a two night stay. We couldn't have timed it better as Rob called with the news of a Baikal Teal on Kilnsea Wetlands!

There is a Baikal Teal there somewhere!

Several pairs breed here.
Of course we went to the pub to celebrate!

The next day we walked to the point & back. It was a glorious day for weather but weak on birds.
90 Dark bellied Brent Geese; 1 Pale bellied Brent Goose; 1100 Grey Plover; Willow Warbler; Chiffchaff & 2 Lesser Whitethroat were the best records.
On the 26th May we drove north to Goathland, our base for the next three nights. The weather turned a little unpredictable. We went for a short walk across the nearby moors, seeing lots of Red Grouse & a few breeding Lapwings.
We also took a walk to the nearby falls seeing a Dipper on the river. It was a lovely walk & the falls were great.
The weather was a little unpredictable so the next day we went to Whitby, visited the Abbey & had a good look around the town. Ending with fish & chips.
On Bank Holiday Monday we went to Bempton Cliffs & although windy & cold, it proved to be a great day out.
On the moors above Goathland.
It was pretty chilly up here!
Red Grouse
A few chicks were also seen.
