Epupa Falls: Namibia

Kuenene River

The next morning on 13th it was time for packing & we drove along the river to Epupa Falls. It was a very scenic drive along the river. The campsite was excellent & we settled in.

The river just in front of our campsite.

A beautiful spot.

The view from the tent.

Our camp.

We had a short walk up the hill, overlooking the river.

The falls were good, but the light wasn't quite right.

Looking into Angola.

A champagne moment!

Rosy faced Lovebird

Wire tailed Swallow

Familiar Chat

Grey backed Camaroptera

Rufous tailed Palm Thrush

On 14th Rufous tailed Palm Thrushes woke us up before dawn! We then went to look at the falls & did a short hike along the gorge. But the light was bad, so we went back in the evening for champagne above the gorge. The light was good & we enjoyed a good hour or so, before returning to camp.

Vervet Monkey was a bit of a pest in the camp.

Blue Waxbill

The 15th August was a lazy time around camp, doing washing & other chores. We then went to the lodge, but the internet was often down (very frustrating) so I did some organising of my photos & Delana worked on her photobook of our Svalbad trip.

Rosy faced Lovebirds waiting to come down
 for a drink.

Red billed Firefinch

White tailed Shrike

Pririt Batis

16th saw us driving down the road to the Epupa Gorge. The track was quite scenic & we went quite a way down, finding a pool of water in an otherwise dry riverbed. Around 20+ Great Sparrows; Lark like Bunting, White throated Canary & Black throated Canaries all came down for a drink. But yet again no Cinderellas! 70+ Rosy faced Lovebirds were nearby.

Angola on the left, Namibia on the right.

It really is stunning in the late afternoon
from this viewpoint.

The falls are spectacular.

A lazy afternoon in camp, followed by a drive to a viewpoint over the falls & river. Nice meal in the restaurant of the lodge.
