Chobe River Trip: Botswana

We were on the road after packing up camp by mid-morning on 18th November. Saw an immature Lesser Spotted Eagle circling over the Chobe National Park, but didn't get a photo because I had packed my camera away for travelling! A lesson needs to be learned here me thinks!

Our chalet for the night.

This was a quick one night stay at the Chobe Safari Lodge. The reason for staying here, was to go on the boat trip on the river in the afternoon. We were lucky, we were able to check in to our chalet early & prepare for the boat trip. This is the third time I have done this trip & it never disappoints.

On board!

Looking in to the Chobe National Park.

At this point, the river is split into different channels,
with large islands of green in-between.

Hippos are everywhere!

As are Crocodiles!

This is not the place for a swim!

Hippos are just everywhere!

If you want to see Hippos up close,
then this is the place!

And of course the place is full of birds!

African Fish Eagle

Long-tailed (Reed) Cormorant

Striated Heron walking down the tree!

Great Egret

A small part of a massive flock of around1,100
Open billed Storks.

Common Sandpiper

Warthogs are also common here.
This one was enjoying a mud bath.

Kudu with Oxpeckers

Red Lechwe

Female

African Skimmer

Quite common on the Chobe River.

Long-toed Lapwing

Blue-cheeked Bee-eater

Little Bee-eater

We left on time & we slowly sailed down the channel. The boat that runs from the Safari Lodge is the large boat & the best vantage point is on the roof, unfortunately there is no shade!
