Camdeboo National Park

This was a new park to visit for both Delana & myself. It is a comparatively small park, divided into various sections, which surrounds the town of Graaff-Reinet. It is Karoo biome at its finest, with some magnificent scenery.

Sunset overlooking the lake.

We arrived late afternoon on 3rd September at the campsite. The place was a very nice surprise with excellent facilities & great level pitches for the caravan. We quickly made camp & enjoyed a pleasant evening.

Typical Karoo mountain scenery in & around
the national park.

Delana getting blown away!

The next couple of days were spent exploring the different sections of the park. On the 4th September we spent the morning exploring Desolation Valley. However, our outing was cut short by the very high winds. It was quite spectacular though.

Ostrich are a common sight here.

Typical scenery in the game section
 of the national park.

Springbok are common here.

Black Wildebeest

We saw about 50 in this herd.

White-faced Whistling Duck

Red-knobbed Coot

Blacksmith Lapwing

Black-winged Stilt

Pied Avocet

We spent the morning of the 5th September in the game section of the national park. This is a comparatively small section of the park & it was quite quiet when we were there, although the strong winds might have contributed to our meagre sightings.

We left the park on 6th September for the drive to Bloemfontein, where Francois was going to finish work on the cage for the battery/fridge. A nice area but our visit was spoilt by the constant high winds.
