Wine, Whales & a Wedding Celebration!

Delana & I actually got married on 14th September last year. However, we arranged it in a bit of a rush & not everyone could make the event at such short notice. Also, I was in the middle of chemotherapy & not feeling too great. So we thought why not have a celebration in the future & give everyone plenty of notice of the event. This is it! We decided to base the celebrations around our house in Pearly Beach & because most people were coming from far flung corners of the globe, decided to make a week of it!

The calm before the storm!

Robin & Anne were the first to arrive!

Ready for the off!

Family & friends started arriving on 20th October & we enjoyed a nice get to together in the evening at our house.

The start of the walk.

One of the joys of this part of the world
is that there are no other people around!

Blue Bay

The next day Robin, Anne & myself did a walk along the coast to Blue Bay & a little beyond, towards Walker Bay Nature Reserve. It was a sunny, but breezy morning but it was a nice walk of around 10 kms. We recorded 33 species of coastal birds, nothing unusual but it was very pleasant.

Kirsty & my grand-daughter Peaches.

We all enjoyed a wonderful evening & wine, good conversation & great food! It was great to get everyone together, which happens rarely these days.

Lunch time!

On 22nd some of us drove to Hermanus. We enjoyed a walk along the beautiful coastline & then lunch at Bintang Cave. Then it was back to the house for drinks, food & good conversation!

Very productive birding: My first Great crested Grebe
for this area. Also 5+ African Black Otters!

Male Maccoa Duck

Puff Adder!

The next day was a birding day with Graham, Maarten & Robin. We drove towards Bredasdorp & birded the large lake, which was very productive. We then went on the Straus Bay Road stopping at various pans & good habitat. We managed 89 species during the day.
