Ajman Water Treatment Plant

The off limits pond at The Star Cement Factory.

Little Grebe

Eurasian Teal

There has been a vagrant Pheasant tailed Jacana at this location for a while now, so thought I would have a go at seeing it, as it would be a new addition to my UAE list. Finding the place is not that easy, as it is situated smack in the middle of an extensive industrial area. However, I arrived at the main gate but they wouldn't let me in! After a bit of searching around, found a nice large, reed fringed pond & thought this might be the location. It wasn't, but it was good for birds with 32 Common Pochard; 7 Tufted Duck; 14 European Shoveler & around 20 Eurasian Teal present. There was also the odd Little Grebe; 6 Common Snipe; 4 Wood & 2 Green Sandpipers. I scanned the edges of the reeds relentlessly, but only found the odd European Coot & Common Moorhen. Plenty of Clamorous Reed Warblers called from the depths.

This is the place!

Nice habitat, full of birds.

Greater Flamingo

All non breeding birds.

Great Spotted Eagle

I then called Jacky who told me to go around the outside of the treatment plant to another area, where I could view another larger pond through a gap in the fence. Spent around three hours here, plenty of birds, but no Jacana!

Little Grebe

Greater Spotted Eagle

The UAE is one of the best countries in the world
 to see this species.
