Photo Essay: The out of habitat Leopard!

Out on the edge of the pan.

This is an adult male Leopard,
confident against predators.

This individual was at least one kilometer from us.

This southern African Leopard (Panthera pardus) is breaking all the rules! He is out & about in the middle of the day & far from any cover. If there were any nearby Lions around he would be killed. I am not sure what he is doing out here. Maybe been for a drink at a freshwater pan? He is not hunting & in such open terrain he wouldn't be able to get close to its quarry anyhow. He is definitely taking a risk.

Here he comes!

Coming straight for the car!

Of all the space out here he decides to head straight for our car! Unbelievable!

We watch him come closer & closer, paying no attention to us whatsoever. We just hunker down & enjoy the show!

He is in his prime & fearless.

Look at the size of those paws!

The highlight of this brief visit to Etosha!
